We had the opportunity to speak to Paul Scott, head coach at the University of Windsor...

What does the University of Windsor specialize in?

The University of Windsor is known for our Human Kinetics, Engineering, Nursing, Law & Business programs. We have team members in all of these programs and the senior players often help the junior players with their studies.

What separates Windsor from other OIWFA Programs?

Our team is included and treated the same as other Varsity Sports programs at the University. It is a partially funded program. The philosophy of my fastpitch program is the enhancement of the athlete's University experience and development of leadership skills through the sport of fastpitch. My priorities for the athletes are: Family, Academics, and the team comes third. I completely understand and promote family and academics before sport. The team is a sisterhood, and the athletes help each other in all facets of the University path and often form study groups and have social outings together.

What are some fun facts about the team?

The fastpitch team has won the "Moriarty Award" 2 of the past 4 seasons. The award is presented to the Varsity team with the top academic average at the Lancer Gala celebrating all Varsity accomplishments. In 2019, the team boasted 6 All-Canadian Academic Athletes. The team organizes and runs many community oriented events. Some examples: (1) working with athletes in the Miracle League providing opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to play softball (2) organizing and gathering products and food for local women's shelter and the food bank (3) an organized blood donation drive. Our team takes great pride in the number of fans and boosters that travel with us to watch us play our league and playoff games. We have often outnumbered the home teams fan base!

What does it cost to play softball at Windsor?

The annual team fee for fastpitch is $250.00 per player. This covers the entire expenses of the University season. This includes all items from diamond fees, equipment costs, and travel. This is the total cost for everything Lancer Fastpitch provides.

What does a road weekend look like at Windsor?

Travel often consists of a double-header on Friday night under the lights utilizing multiple van rentals to get to the assigned location, and an evening hotel stay. Another double-header is likely on tap for Saturday and possibly more games Sunday as well depending on the schedule format the league adopts. Typically there are two travel weekends, and two home weekends in a season. The athletes have often referred to themselves as a "band of sisters", and lots of bonding happens during travel weekends.

Who should potential students reach out to?
